It is said, by some, that body painting is the oldest form of art, dating back to early civilization. The World Body Painting Festival originally began in 1996 in Austria. Over the years, it has drawn over a hundred artists and models, and thousands of visitors, from all over the world.
Some of the best costumes I’ve ever seen…are painted directly on the body.The World Body Painting Festival is the biggest annual event of the body painting culture and community. Here are highlights of the first South Korean Body Painting Competition (held in 2008).
Ashley Greene Wears Body Painting
Taylor Lautner’s not the only “Twilight” hottie showing some skin! In a new ad campaign for SoBe Lifewater, toothsome actress Ashley Greene flaunts her own fabulous figure – in nothing but body paint. Greene – better known as Robert Pattinson’s on-screen vampire sister Alice Cullen – hawks the brand’s calorie-free drinks in a series of barely-there “skinsuits,” including scaly pink and yellow designs that were painstakingly painted on her body.
“It took the artist 12 hours to paint the SoBe scales on each skinsuit,” Greene said of make-up artist Joanne Gair. “But it was totally worth it. It’s an experience I’ll never forget. “We did two photo shoots, one on the beach and one in a secluded jungle-like setting and it was incredible,” she added. “It was nice to get away and spend time in such a gorgeous place for a few days. “In the eye-popping promo shots and video circling the Web, Greene frolics on the sand and strikes a sultry pose in the Turks and Caicos islands promoting Cherimoya Punch and Strawberry Dragonfruit drinks.
Fortunately, her vigorous shooting schedule for the ” Twilight” sequels – including the upcoming “Eclipse” – have kept the actress in shape. “We had a lot of action and fight training,” she said. “So it really toned up my body for these pictures. “Greene’s sexy photo shoot will be featured in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, which hits newsstands on February 10.
Avatar Fashion Week Runway Body Painting
AVATAR invaded Australia Fashion Week with flamboyant designer Camilla Franks unleashing an extravagantly colourful collection inspired by the 3-D blockbuster film.
Models in blue Na'vi body paint opened Franks' show on day one of the fashion festival in Sydney this afternoon.
Franks, who is credited with making caftans sexy, launched her most ambitious collection to date, transporting her audience into the depths of Pandora with vivid fabrics and flowing silhouettes.
Her show featured rising young Aboriginal model Samantha Harris painted like a sci-fi princess in fierce fluorescent hues by celebrity make-up artist Napoleon Perdis.
Harris was one of 25 models who walked the runway wearing richly printed gowns and caftans and intense eye make-up that took more than five hours to apply.
Perdis says Franks' aesthetic is perfectly suited to the modern woman who embraces both nature and technology.
"This show was amazing - basically, it was escapism mixed with Babylon and Avatar with tribal, but the skincare was cutting edge,'' Perdis explained backstage.
"Camilla wanted it to be an escape, and that's what we created for her.''
